2014 Christmas Tour – A gray and white Christmas!

Link-party-holiday-house-walk-tag-250x250

I can’t believe it’s time for another Christmas tour if you missed last years tour you can see it here.  The last few years I have decorated with a more simplistic approach.  This year I really craved decorating for Winter instead of everything Christmas so I kept it limited to the trees and a few other Christmas touches.  I find it depressing once the Christmas decor is put away again for another year, hence wanting to decorate for Winter so I can leave that decor up until Spring.  I haven’t finished my “Winter” styling yet but I am finished with the Christmas touches!  This year I kept the decor to the living room and bedroom, in years past I had every room decorated for Christmas, I limited it to two rooms due to wanting the look of Winter decor vs everything Christmas.  Check back as I will be showing my winter touches in a later post.

Let the 2014 Christmas tour begin!

A quick glance at the living room

2014 Christmas Tour Dio Home Improvements My main colors this year are green, white, cream and gray along with natural wood.  Not your traditional red and green or gold and silver.  I wanted to bring in a lot of things from nature this year hence the wood sliced ornaments (click on the link to see how I made those).  I also used a lot of owls and deer decor this year, going back to wanting the feel of nature and wanting things that could be left up for the whole winter.  To see the owl wreath tutorial click on the link. These wood slice ornaments are a favorite this year, I have them on both the living room and bedroom trees.  One side has an initial in chalk the reverse is a silhouette both filled in and in sketch format.  These were also one of the gifts that I made for the Secret Santa Blog Tour. 2014 Christmas Tour - Wood Slice Chalk Ornaments - Dio Home Improvements The only red that I used this year is in this Joy sign.  The touch of red from the sign ties in with the red wheel on my faux crank table. 2014 Christmas Tour - Dio Home Improvements My favorite new thing this year is the Joyeux Noel sign.  The glitter alphabet ornaments were made for the Christmas edition Knock Off Tour.  I wanted to do something different with these ornaments instead of just having them on the tree so I framed  them and put a wreath on the front of the frame. This adorable deer head was the gift I received in the Secret Santa Tour.

2014 Secret Santa Blog Tour - DIY Knitted Deer Head 2014 Christmas Tour Now for the bedroom.  I kept the decor in the bedroom to the tree, the chalk deer head artwork and two deer and a tree on the night stand.  Since we are doing a 12 days of Christmas tour, I am on day two – I was to loosely incorporate “Three French Hens” into the decor this year based on the tour theme.  Since french hens would not really go with my decor I used owls!  I have three owls on my bedroom  tree. 2014 Christmas Tour - Dio Home Improvements - Bedroom This tree is decorated with the same wood slice ornaments I used on the living room tree as well as another new ornament I made this year, Embroidery Hoop Ornaments. I also have some chickadee ornaments on this tree.  My best friend loves chickadee’s when I ordered an ornament online for her I didn’t realize I had ordered a dozen of them (apparently quantity of 1 was 1 box of 12 ornaments!  I gave her a few of them and kept a few to use in this years decor). 2014 Christmas Tour - Dio Home Improvements.com - Bedroom This DIY Chalk Deer Head was made using black poster board, I traced a deer head on with a chalk marker then filled it in with regular white chalk. 2014 Christmas Tour - Dio Home Improvements.com - DIY Chalk Deer These two deer were a purchase last year, the tree is a new purchase this year, both are from target. 2014 Christmas Tour   Here is a compilation of the DIY projects I did for last Christmas if you missed them!  Click on the photo to see those projects in detail. I hope you enjoyed this years Christmas tour, please follow along with my fellow bloggers to see how they decorated this year too!  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
